Lt. Gen (Dr) Bipin Puri appointed new Vice Chancellor of KGMU

Governor Anandiben Patel has appointed Lt. General (Rtd) Dr. Bipin Puri as the new Vice Chancellor of Lucknow's King George Medical University, here on Saturday.
According to Rajbhawan sources here , Dr. Puri who is presently Professor Emeritus at AIIMS Delhi, will serve as VC KGMU for three years from the day he takes the charge. The official orders of his appointment were released by Rajbhawan yesterday.
His predecessor Prof. Bhatt's tenure ended on 11th April, but he was given 3 months extension due to the covid 19 pandemic.
He also hold the office of Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) previously and is credited with bringing major reforms in army medical services.
Lt Gen Bipin Puri graduated from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and was commissioned in the Army Medical Corps (AMC) on 08 December 1979.
He completed his post graduation in General Surgery from AFMC in 1985 and MCh(Paed Surg) from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh in 1993.He is a paediatric surgeon par excellence with a national standing in the field. He was Associate Professor at AFMC Pune and has served with distinction in Command Hospital (CC) Lucknow & Army Hospital (Research and Referral) as Senior Adviser, Professor & HOD. The General Officer has pioneered the NUSS Procedure for Pectus Excavatum deformity in India and has conducted various workshops to showcase the procedure. With a penchant for medical research, the General officer has passionately endeavoured to indulge extensively into diverse facets of Paediatric Surgery & guided many research fellows in their professional journeys.
Over a period spanning around 40 years, Dr. Puri brings along with him rich experience of innovation and research in medical sciences and low cost technological interventions.
