In a bid to boost up country's fight against the Corona pandemic  Uttar Pradesh's Era University in collaboration with Era's Medical Devices & Services Pvt Ltd has developed a secure and mobile chamber--the VR Secure Booth--for efficient sample collection as well as examination of suspected patients of Coronavirus.

University officials told Medogle that booth will  be effective in minimising any risk to frontline doctors and allied healthcare staff. The first VR Secure Booth which the university developed was gifted to King George's Medical University (KGMU) , the apex centre of covid- 19 testing in the state.

The University also assured that more such booths  will be provided to other government hospitals involved in coronavirus sample collection and treatment with an aim to strengthen the fight against corona pandemic.

The booth which is an aluminium and glass cabin prevents influx of infected air inside the chamber and has an inbuilt microphone and speaker for patient-doctor interaction. Double layer safety gloves ensure high standard of infection control, nullifying the risk of virus spread especially during nasal or oral swab sample collection, the university claimed.
The university further said that use of the booth will invariably bring down the need for using PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) by health care workers which will address shortage of the PPE kits.
A stethoscope has also been attached to the booth allowing for auscultation, pivotal for correct diagnosis.

Prof. Farzana Mahdi , the Vice Chancellor of Era University in a conversation with Medogle said

" We are committed to ensure our best inputs possible in order to scale up the fight against the Covid pandemic , both in terms of treatment as well as new innovations to manage the crisis". The University is also engaged in creating mass awareness regarding the disease so as to mitigate the fake news and reduce panic , and anxiety among the general public.

University's constituent hospital, Era's Medical College and Hospital has geared up to be a dedicated Covid- 19 hospital to manage pandemic at war level.

Training programs aiming to cover diifferent aspects of pandemic  management and emergency response are underway on  regular basis to tackle the disease under the guidance of College Principal Prof. (Dr) . MMA Faridi.

The booth comes with germicidable UV tubes for air and water purification and the booth is also fully washable for additional disinfection.

Head of KGMU's medicine department Prof Virendra Atam also said that the booth will help in safeguarding doctors, technicians and other medical staff from getting infected themselves.
